A blast of new models at the Show Compact crossovers dominate the new offerings

The fourth edition of the Singapore Motorshow returns to Suntec from Jan 11-14 and there are a slew of brand new models from the 20 automotive brands on display.

Hyundai made the biggest bang with three new cars.

The first is the Ioniq Electric, a pure electric five-door hatchback that has a range of 280 km on a full charge. The Korean carmaker’s foray into e-mobility is priced at S$149,888 with COE. Kona

Next is the Hyundai Kona, a small SUV with fresh styling and fun colours. There are two variants - a front-wheel-drive 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine or all-wheel-drive 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit. Prices start from under S$100,000 at S$94,999.

Finally, the third Hyundai is the fourth-generation i30.

The latest iteration of this compact model has ditched the part-MPV styling to be a full-fledged five-door hatchback. With a 1.4-litre turbo engine, the new Hyundai i30 is listed at S$107,999. i30

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Mitsubishi has finally got its styling right with this fresh new compact crossover, the Eclipse Cross.

This made in Japan model is front-wheel-driven with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an eight-step CVT (continuously variable transmission). Prices start from S$121,999. Eclipse

Kia Stinger 

This Stinger is an unusual Kia for the following reasons - it is a sports sedan with either a 2.0-litre four-cylinder or 3.3-litre V6 (both turbocharged) driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Prices start from S$166,999 for the 2.0L GT and S$206,999 for the 3.3L GT. Stinger

Volvo XC40 

Two things stand out when it comes to this new compact Volvo SUV - the cool styling and the fun drive.

The XC40 has a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, with its 250 hp and 350 Nm delivered to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The result is excellent oomph and control. Prices start from S$183,000.

Toyota C-HR

This funky small crossover is finally available from authorised Toyota distributor Borneo Motors. The C-HR stands out for its distinctive nose, sculpted flanks and hip cabin. A 1.2-litre turbo engine drives its front wheels through a CVT. Prices start from S$119,988. C-HR

Peugeot 5008 SUV 

The Peugeot 5008 SUV is a large and sleek seven-seater with a an efficient 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine with 129 hp and 230 Nm to drive the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. There is also a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo with 163 hp and 240 Nm. Prices start from S$131,999.
